April 2008, Araku.
This kid would repeatedly run from the top of this rock and launch himself onto the bare and slippery rock and slide down the water and plunge into the shallow pool at the bottom of the rock. One wrong step and there was danger of him smashing his face on the rock or breaking some bones!

December 2008, Hyderabad.
He was selling little crowns made of faux metal, similar to the ones worn by beauty queens after winning fancy titles like Miss Universe or Miss World, to tourists outside the Golconda fort. It was his after school job.

August 2008, Vellore.

April 2009, Borra Caves.
I went to Vizag, had fun traveling around, came back and promptly fell sick for a week! Inspite of that and the 7 kms we had to trek in the mid afternoon heat to reach these caves (no local transport due to general elections) I’d say this place was worth it. I was visiting it after about 13 yrs so it was great in the time lapsed sense as well.

January 2009, Jim Corbett National Park.
Indian Elephant (Elephas maximus indicus)
We were quite lucky to sight this magnificent tusker as apparently none of the other visitors to the park that day saw him! With this photo the recent series on the Jim Corbett National Park comes to an end. There is a similar series of photos from the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary that I had visited after Jim Corbett but I’ll hold that off for now and indeed might post those photos (except perhaps for a few) directly to my indian birds gallery. So do subscribe to the feed there if you are interested.
